Halloween Nails and Treats!

Halloween isn't a favorite holiday of mine, maybe because we didn't celebrate it as a child? I think we had more fun anyways messing with the trick-or-treaters who would incessantly ring the doorbell even though it was obvious no one was answering the door?

Even as an adult I don't really purposely make plans.  In the past we've gone to Halloween parties, but never hosted our own.  This year was no exception.  I really couldn't get enthused about it, so went as my husband's side kick.  He went as a character from Jersey Shore, or as a "Jersey Boy" as the wig packaging said, and I just wore my matching "Yeah Buddy!" t-shirt, big hair, and a combination of too much eye make-up and bronzer. 

Enough about that though, time for Halloween Nails!

First up is my neice Jayne's nails.  She dressed up as an 80's Girl, so her nails matched her colorful costume, down to the kiss accent nail!

Bloggers for Health: Personal Workout Plan

I recently came across a group of bloggers which blog weekly on Saturdays about health and fitness. Unfortunately I missed the first week, but I'm jumping right into week 2!

What has your workout experience been in the past?




I've been off and on diets since the 6th grade, but my main workout experiences have come in the last 2-3 years. I've come to realize I can cut back on eating, but unless I add exercise I'll never lose more than 5-10lbs. I build a mental block against exercise and I tell myself I hate it. As a result, I tend to like exercising without feeling like exercising, like working out with friends, dancing, or walking.




I would say walking is my favorite form of working out. I love walking with friends, it makes the time go by faster. Once I walk for about 2-3 weeks, I like to sporadically add jogging spurts. And this usually leads into the Couch to 5k program (C25k).

Another workout I've recently stumbled upon is zumba. I love zumba! The best way I believe to do zumba is in a class setting with an instructor. I'm not saying the cd's or the Wii game aren't great too, but especially for beginners, classes are the way to go. I usually burn about 500-600 calories a class, and feel like I was dancing the whole time!




Another workout I came across around the same time as zumba is spinning/cycling. Wow. Where to start? A great workout, great music, but painful. I'll leave it at that. If you've done spinning, you know what I'm talking about.




Have you had a workout Plan before? If so, how long ago was it, and were there any difficulties you had with it?

I've never had a set workout plan before per se, but I would look at a month at a time and map out which classes I would go to versus when to do c25k.

How do you feel after working out? (physically, emotionally, ect)

It's funny. I say I hate working out, but that's always me just being lazy. After I work out I am exhilarated! Between the feelings of accomplishment and the endorphins flowing, I feel like I could conquer the world!

I vow this week to workout a minimum of 3 times. This will include a 50 minute zumba class, an hour walk with my friend, and a walking/elliptical combo. I will report back my progress next week?

Green for Dwarfism Awareness Month


Through blogging I'm meeting some amazing people, including Alicia from Fashion By Alicia. Make a point to visit her blog, it's well worth your time! Alicia asked fellow fashion bloggers to wear green to show their support for Dwarfism Awareness Month.  Due to time constraints, I was unable to do outfit posts with green, but of course I did my nails!

October is National Dwarfism Awareness Month


October has been declared National Dwarfism Awareness Month. Little People of America (LPA) is a national support organization for people with dwarfism and their families. LPA provides peer, parent and medical support for the dwarfism community.   



  • There are over 200 distinct forms of dwarfism and skeletal dysplasias.
  • People with dwarfism are generally not taller than 4' 10" at adult height. The typical height range is 2'8" to 4'5".
  • Eighty percent of people with dwarfism have average-height parents and siblings.
  • There are an estimated 30,000 people in the United States and 651,000 internationally with a type of dwarfism.
  • In July 2009 the word "midget" was declared inappropriate and offensive. Preferable terms are: having dwarfism, short stature, little person, lp, and the medical terminology use of dwarf.  A person's name is always the most preferred.
  • LPA has registered a complaint with the FCC over the use of the "m" word.  Our goal is to raise awareness around the offensive impact of the word in order to eliminate its use in media, popular culture and in everyday language. 
  • LPA has 6500 members across the United States and includes 70 chapters active in all 50 states.
  • Skeletal Dysplasias affect bone growth, but generally do not affect cognitive abilities.
  • LPA hosts an annual national conference each July which draws 2500 attendees for a week of activities, including educational and medical workshops, sports, and social networking and events.


The National Dwarfism Awareness Month program is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about people with dwarfism.

Polishes Used:
-Zoya 'Shawn' (one coat)
-Seche Vite (one coat of top coat)
-China Glaze 'It's Alive'

Directions:
-This is a fairly easy manicure to do, and one you can do with what you already have in your house, TAPE! This is my first tape manicure, so forgive the crooked lines and tracks of the tape around my fingers.
-Simply cut a piece of scotch (some people use blue painter's tape, I used scotch) into a square, then cut along the diagonal.  You now have enough for 2 fingers.  **IMPORTANT** BEFORE applying to your nail, stick the tape once or twice to your hand, to take away some of the glue/stickiness so as not to pull up your initial color.
-Once you've applied your tape, paint on your second color.  Immediately after painting the nail, remove the tape.  Voila!

The One Hundred: The B's

So to continue on with Nina Garcia's The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own, I will list the B's today! I was trying to figure out the best way to keep this going, in increments of 5, 10? Then I realized she organized it by alphabet, so why not stick with that? Ballet Flats are a repeat, but I'm sure you don't mind!

The premise of this post is to go through the book and to see how well I score, out of 100, in matters of style!

Jessica Simpson: Macy's
1.) Ballet Flats- I fully believe with Nina when she says the ballet flats have stood the test of time and it's "one of the few flat shoes that the fashion world has adopted and adored."

2.) Bangles- Bangles can be seen anywhere, from models wearing plastic colorful ones with t-shirts and chucks, or actresses on the red carpet wearing stunning gold and diamond ones.  Bangles can be found anywhere from Dollar General to Saks.  The picture above is of Nancy Cunard, a British activist born into a wealthy family, who rejected her family and wealth to be a racism and fascism activist.  She had man famous lovers including Aldous Huxley, but succumb to a mental health disease accelerated by her drug use, and died weighing 57 pounds. She is famous for her styling of bangles, as evident above! I would say I have the market cornered on variations of bangles:


3.) Belts- as Nina says, belts are often an "overlooked and under appreciated" accessory, with shoes and bags getting all the attention! Belts can "make you look slimmer, pulled together, accentuate curves, and add bling to an otherwise bland outfit." I probably have a minimum of 10 belts, so this is a check!

 4.) Bikini- I have a tankini, do I get half credit? "The key to wearing a bikini is confidence, confidence, confidence.  The girls that rock a bikini best do not necessarily have the most perfect bodies," says Nina.  Since I don't have one, I'll post one that I love from Victoria Secret:

5.) Blackberry This book was published in 2008, so I'm surprised this is on the list rather than the iPhone, but I'll run with it! I personally have a "Crackberry" for now, so this made me smile!

6.) Black Opaque Tights- who doesn't love them? They can hide a mirage of imperfections, and paired with a bootie or a black suede boot or heel for a streamlined look. I've got a pair, but can't think of an outfit I can wear them with, so for now:

7.) Blazer No longer are blazers just for suits, but can be worn with skinny jeans, dresses, etc.!


8.) Boyfriend Cardigan- this is a definite no with my body type, but a highly popular piece.  They look bad on me and accentuate parts I don't want accentuated! ;) They look fabulous on my sister though! I agree with Nina when she says "perhaps because anything that looks like it was stolen out of your boyfriend's closet will never go out of style."

9.) Brooch I'm a jewelry freak, so I LOVE brooches, and have quite a few! Instead of a picture of mine, I found a picture of something I wish I had done for my wedding bouquet- a bouquet of brooches! So chic!
