#ManicureMonday: ChG Flip Flop Fantasy & Hits Hefesto

Today I want to showcase an all time favorite polish of mine, China Glaze 'Flip Flop Fantasy,' and what perfect time than the kick off to summer?

This color is very difficult to photograph accurately, but this is the closest photo to the color:

Trust me when I say this is that bright and pops that much in real life.  I've had it on my toes for over two weeks, and have done manis twice in a week with it now I'm so in love...

But then I remembered seeing someone post a picture on MUA putting Hits 'Hefesto' over it, and BAM:

I cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful this manicure is...

China Glaze 'Flip Flop Fantasy' is available at Sally Beauty Supply for ~$5.99
Hits 'Hefesto' was purchased here for $10.

Is this a color you'd wear? It gives you an instant tan, trust me- I'm so pale, but look how tan my hands look!

I'm linking up with the Heathers at Glitter & Gloss and Just for Mani Monday, stop by!

What's In My Bag?

Heather from Glitter and Gloss is hosting a link up today showing what's in our bags! I've been meaning to do a post like this since the fall, and this being a link-up makes it even more special.

I decided to be honest and show you what my bag really looks like right now, not all cleaned out for your viewing and critique!

One.  Hot.  Mess.

I did use this as an opportunity to clean it out and switch bags/wallets. The finished product:

Bag: hype, TJMaxx
Wristlet: Coach
iPhone Case: eBay
Cosmetic Bag: Bath & Body Works

Pretty standard, right? Here's what's inside my massive cosmetic case:

-Zoya Hot Lips Lip Balm in Girly Girl
-Bare Minerals Lip Gloss in 7 Layer Cake
-Tweezerman 'Matchbox Itty Bitty (Nail) Files'
-La Fresh Makeup Remover wipes (birchbox)
-My Tagalongs-credit card shaped all purpose tool
-'Spoiled Rotten' mints
-Ms. & Mrs. Survival Kit (pink, on the right)
-Unseen: pillcase, mirror, cuticle cream, sewing kit.

I have tried to minimize this cosmetic bag numerous times to no avail.  I feel like I can't live without any of these items! Seriously, check out the Ms. & Mrs. survival kits:

I picked mine up at a store in Tyson's mall in DC, and I apologize I don't remember the name of the store.  It literally has everything you could ever need, from bandaids to advil to clear nail polish.  I love the mani-pedimergency kit...I might just need that!

So that's it for what's in my bag! What's in yours? Go link up at Glitter & Gloss!

Rebuilding Through Faith

I feel that no matter where we are in our lives, we are all currently struggling with something.  I read the spring edition of Life:Beautiful last night and wanted to share some Bible verses with you which spoke volumes in my life.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything... Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.  But the rich should take pride in their humiliation-since they will pass away like a wild flower."
-James 1:2-4,9,10 NIV

"...He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
-Philippians 1:6 HCSB

"Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, make your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
-Philippians 4:6-7

"I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.  I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot... I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me."
-Philippians 4:11-13

"In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."
-I Peter 1:6-7 NIV

Rockin' New Shades OOTD

For my birthday my sister in law (and family) gave me these incredible Kate Spade glasses, aren't they rad? I'll admit that the whole cat-eye trend scares me.  I'm sure it's just a basic fear of the unknown, but as I stated in this post, my style is evolving thanks to blogging.  A year ago I would have went with a pair or aviators (I may be a little obsessed...3 pairs,) but thanks to my blogging, I now own timeless tortoise shell cat-eye glasses!

We spent this past weekend in Salem with my sister in law Abbe, her husband Jon and their 3 kids Josh, Lily, and Sophie.  It was a fun packed weekend, a perfect retreat for the hubs and I.  They are seriously the busiest people I know...between cookouts, baseball games, art exhibits, and rides in the convertible, we stayed busy all weekend.

I guess I didn't realize until I saw this picture that my pant cuffs weren't equally folded... oh well.

This has become one of my favorite outfits and I've worn it probably at least once a week for the last few weeks.  Thanks to Bekah over at Matters of Merrymaking for the inspiration to buy boyfriend tanks from Target, I had been avoiding the whole boyfriend trend for years.

The funny thing is, although it looks like I styled this outfit around the glasses, it was fate that they matched this outfit as I was wearing it!

Outfit Details:
Jeans: Calvin Klein
Boyfriend Tee: Target
Scarf: Target
Bag: Steven by Steve Madden
Shoes: Nine West
Necklaces: Lia Sophia
Earrings: anthropologie
Sunglasses: Kate Spade 'Angelique'

Oh, and I was rocking this manicure:

Happy Wednesday! Who's tuning in for the season finale of Revenge tonight?

#Manicure Monday: Nails Inc. Baker Street

Happy Monday! Today I want to feature a color that has been on my lemmings list since I "found" nail polish last August.  This is 'Baker Street' by Nails Inc.  How gorgeous is this color?

This is definitely a difficult color to photograph, and unfortunately these photos do not portray the color accurately.  'Baker Street' was recently in the news, made popular by Beyonce, sporting the manicure after the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy:

I bought this about a month ago, cut my hand the next day, and had to look at the bottle for 3 weeks before applying it.  It was worth the wait!

It's also available in the blinged-cap version for an additional $10, which even I didn't see was worth it.

'Baker Street' is available in the US through Sephora and retails for $9.50. It's a gorgeous color and has an amazing formula, practically applies itself.

    {Ignore yucky thumb cuticle!}

I am linking up with the Heathers over on Glitter & Gloss and Just Things for Mani Monday, stop by to see the other manicures! It'll make a boring, awful Monday more tolerable, trust me!

    Blogging Requires An Effort!

I haven't been taking OOTD pictures recently for a number of reasons, mainly that sweatpants are more comfortable.  There, I said it.  Granted they're matching, (mostly pink) sweats, I admit there are trips out in public in them. Stacy and Clinton would have a cow, I'm sure.

Another reason I haven't been taking OOTD pictures is because my style is evolving thanks to my blogging hobby.  I'm beginning to branch out further than Target, finding new designers, trends, and styles daily.  Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with Target, I have continued to shop there, I just have realized there's so much more out there! Although the majority of my clothes nowadays include yoga pants (from you guessed it, Target) and college sweatshirts, I promise I do have some outfits planned to start taking OOTD pictures again.

Until then, here are some OOTD pictures that never made a post.  Mostly due to the fact that I'm learning to use my DSLR camera, but also because they're just not that great.

    First up, pictures after church:

    Outfit Details:
    Pants: Macy's, INC
    Silk blouse: Kohl's
    Black Cardigan: Macy's, INC
    Heels: TJMaxx, Nine West
    Jewelry: Lia Sophia

Next up, a cold blistery day in VA:

It was at this point I forced asked my husband to come help me out of desperation.  You see, as the title of this post suggests, blogging takes an effort.  And sometimes it's just exhausting.  I have mad props for those of you like Alicia from Fashion by Alicia, Megan from The Frugalista Diaries, Amber from Real Girl Glam, and Mandy from In the Fashion Lane who do it on a daily basis.

I'll blame it on the weather here, but there are days where the lighting is just off, it's too windy, or you're just not into it.  Then, when my frustration level is an 8 out of 10, my husband makes me laugh and it's all good.  He imitates my poses and smiles, which on him look like this:

    And even worse, like this:

This day I gave up, and came inside to eat a frozen pizza warmed up by my love.

    Outfit Details:
Snake Print Shirt: TJMaxx, Calvin Klein
    Jeans: Macy's, Calvin Klein
    Boots: Kohl's
    Jewelry: NY&CO, Lia Sophia Hoops
    Sunglasses: Target

This was my last OOTD attempt, at least a month ago now.

I felt this outfit was awkward due to the scarf.  This scarf was from Target, and I just need to chalk it up as one of those items of clothing that look better on the hanger.  It's a gorgeous scarf, but is a large square, and hard to showcase when worn.

This is a perfect example of the style I am leaving behind.  Snoozefest.  Boring.  Safe. I'm from New Jersey for crying out loud, where's the excitement?

    Outfit Details:
    Tanks: Target
    Sweater: Kohl's
    Jeans: Macy's, Calvin Klein
    Scarf: Target (on clearance now!)
    Bag: Steven by Steve Madden
    Jewelry: NY&Co, Lia Sophia

In conclusion, trust me when I say OOTD posts are a lot of work.  Especially when you're taking your own photographs.  My older brother graciously lent me his tri-pod, which has helped considerably, next up is to learn how to use my Canon.  Maybe a remote will help?  For now, I still continue to use my p&s Canon Power Shot to do the work.

So, any tips for OOTD posting and taking one's own pictures?
