Comfort & Bling

Any excuse to play dress up is fine by me- I feel so glamorous when I'm not wearing yoga pants and a sweatshirt. A lot of fashion blogging is playing dress up, and I will honestly admit I am at fault. On days I'm "done up," I have the immediate urge to photograph and document the outfit, like it's this momentous event in my life.

Looking back I regret not taking a picture without my coat, to show you the details of this sweatshirt a little better. The minute I saw an ad for the decorative sweatshirts from Old Navy in a magazine, I went in and purchased three.  You see, like I said earlier I live in sweatshirts, so the opportunity to wear one a little more "dressed up" was just too good to pass up. I didn't wait for a coupon or online code either, I just went for it.

I wear an XL at Old Navy, and when something this amazing comes out, I need to grab it when I see it or I will miss out! I am sure those that wear sizes Small and Medium know my pain...is it just me that clearance racks usually have sizes XS and L left?!?!

I wore this outfit Christmas Day, the perfect outfit to spend quality time eating and making fellowship with my family. I have been layering more recently in an attempt to conquer my fear or it. It is a common fear- the fear that the more I layer on, the heavier I look. I am learning this isn't always the case, and with the polar vortex recently, is coming in handy!

I Carry Your Heart

Although it may seem on the simple side, this manicure it a little sentimental to me. Ok, don't poke fun, but it's like for 3 reasons- my husband picked out this pink color, the blue symbolizes him, and piggy-backing on that, it reminded me of my favorite E.E. Cummings' poem.

You may recognize the poem from the movie 'In Her Shoes,' or just from the beautiful lines...'I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)' It may seem silly to some, but it warms my heart to look down at my manicure and the blue heart on my ring finger reminding me of the man's heart I carry in my heart.

For this manicure I used 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 'Back to the Fuchsia' with the accent heart in Zoya 'Robyn', drawing the heart with dotting tools picked up on ebay. The set of 5-6 dotting tools was under $5 shipped, but you can also use a toothpick or a bobby pin. I practiced 2 hearts before actually applying to my nail, using this tutorial from The Beauty Department:

Adorbs right? This pink has a subtle, VERY subtle blue shimmer to it that does coordinate well with Robyn, but is difficult to photograph accurately:

By E. E. Cummings
I carry your heart with me(I carry it in
my heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

I fear no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet)I want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)

Find Your Passion

This past week a sweet friend of mine posted on her instagram feed a picture of a Dove chocolate wrapper with "Find Your Passion" written inside, and I have been thinking about this concept daily ever since. Although it sounds like a cliché concept, the more I thought about it, the more intoxicating it became.

In the pursuit of finding, or identifying my passion, it was very easy to rule out what definitely was not my passion. The easiest of course was my job. By day I am a Recruiter, and while that does bring meaning to my life and I thoroughly enjoy what I do, I can immediately say it is not my true passion. My current job consumes me, my time, my husband's time, and any other loved one's time compassionate enough to listen to me, but it does not make my heart beat faster, it doesn't bring a smile to my face. I am desperate for a work-life balance, where I can sign off of work and let my creative juices flow, DIY, cook, bake, learn photography, anything but eat bad food and crash on the couch which is my current MO.

In the ever {unachievable} attempt to create a work-balance life, I have neglected what I feel is my passion, this space. At the Pink of Perfection is my passion. This is an all encompassing passion, which includes anything and everything pretty, girly, and beautiful, fashion, beauty, and style. I can say with a smile on my face, that this is what makes my heart go pitter patter, what brightens up a dull moment, which is a light of hope at the end of a series of dark tunnels I have been stuck in too long. Finding and trying a new recipe, painting my nails, reading a good book, spending hours on Pinterest and with my nose in fashion magazines, have all been stifled by work and the long hours I have been putting in.

I want to take this light I have found and pass it along to others- I want to be someone who inspires others, I want to be one who is a source of information. Nothing brings me greater joy than when someone asks me for advice on gel manicures at a Halloween party like my friend Heather did, or posts manicures to my facebook wall like Linda and Sarah, or when Melanie asks for advice for healthier hair, or when Mohammed sends me a message inquiring where to purchase YSL lipstick. I have this surge of indescribable bliss knowing that a piece of knowledge tucked away in my head could help someone in something that may seem trivial and small to others, but could instill confidence and a sense of pride.

I have grandiose plans for this passion, I want to take this blog to bigger and better places, all the while staying true to myself and my readers.  I have goals and aspirations to turn my creativity into more than just dreams and wishes, but concrete plans and successes.

Have you found your passion? Have you ever sat down and thought about it? I'd love to hear your input on your passions and what fills you with joy!

Product Love: J.R Watkins Lemon Hand Products

I have found possibly the most indulgent hand soap and hand lotion ever. EVER. I bought this set because we had company coming into town, and promptly moved them into my bathroom when they left.

When I say indulgent, I am talking mainly about the hand & body lotion, the Lemon Cream. This seriously smells like a lemon bar- buttery crust and lemon curd, seriously try not to lick your hand!

When it comes to the hand & body lotion, a little bit goes along way, and leaves my hands so soft- it's seriously the consistency of lemon curd!

The best part? The Hand & Body Lotion is free of parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol and dyes! I have had difficulty along the way trying to find natural beauty products that are good, that smell like anything other than lavender and basil, and actually make me want to buy refills. Overall, this is a natural product that wows and will have a place in our guest bathroom for some time to come!

Can you recommend any natural beauty products that you swear by?

A Little Late: Phillip Lim for Target

{via}

In case you've been living under a rock in blogland for awhile, did you know Phillip Lim made a collection for Target? Like I needed another reason to love Target, they have been collaborating with big, expensive designers, making their products much more reasonably priced for the everyday girl or guy. Some of the other collaborations were with Messoni and Nieman Marcus- did you pick anything up from them?

I originally picked up a few pieces including 2 bags, a scarf, and a sweatshirt. I ended up returning one bag and the scarf (couldn't figure out what to wear it with- the white was an off white and didn't work,) and well the other bag is currently wrapped up for a Christmas gift to the most stylish Womens' Studies Professor I know!

That leaves the sweatshirt.

I freaking love this sweatshirt, can you tell? I wear this thing during the week with sweatpants, and glam it up on the weekends with black jeans and bright red lipstick.

The sizing at Target is so weird, am I right? I can wear an XL like this is, but then can't fit in a 1X in the plus. Seriously Target, get your ish together. I mostly buy XL's and XXL's from the misses department, unless there's something uber cute in the plus. I will say I was shocked that this fit- designer pieces are notorious for running small.
